Alastair was first elected as a Common Councilman of the Ward of Queenhithe in 1999 and was then elected Alderman in 2016.

Alastair served as Aldermanic Sheriff for 2022-2023.

Alastair served as the 696th Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2024 - 2025.  His Mayoral theme was “Growth Unleashed”, which saw him imploring those in the financial, professional, legal and maritime services sectors in the United Kingdom become more ambitious worldwide and reintroduce calculated risk back in their business decisions; together with energising the remarkable diverse communities which make up London.    

Background & Interests

Early in his career, Alastair was a lawyer and practiced as a solicitor at leading international law firm Baker & McKenzie in London and in Asia.

Alastair later held senior positions at SPARK Ventures (formally NewMedia SPARK PLC) - a pioneering technology venture capital company in London - and was Managing Director at Galahad Capital Plc, a buy-out specialist company. 

Naisbitt King Asset Management Ltd

Alastair is the founder and Chairman of Naisbitt King Asset Management Limited (NKAML), an FCA-authorised asset management company, specialising in managing segregated portfolios of investment grade fixed income securities. It also has experience with sukuk/Shariah-compliant investments.

Interests

Alastair is a keen boxer and also enjoys hill walking in Scotland with his wife, Florence, and their dog.
