The Defence and Security Lecture

Reminders of Britain’s military heritage are everywhere in the City. On the eve of Trafalgar Day, I was proud to continue our modern tradition of hosting the Defence and Security Lecture at Mansion House, welcoming Defence Secretary John Healey.

The City of London Corporation plays a vital role in national resilience – from tackling cybercrime and fraud through the City of London Police, to our support for Armed Forces Cadets, Reservists and Veterans. It was also an important opportunity to celebrate the mayoralty’s success in doubling the number of livery companies signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant.

A strong defence and a thriving economy are two sides of the same coin. The City stands ready to connect capital with the industries that keep Britain safe.
