Visit to Tokyo

Tokyo was the first stop on my visit to Asia, where I had the opportunity to strengthen the City of London’s ties with Japan’s financial sector.
Key moments included:

Re-signing the City of London–Tokyo Memorandum of Understanding alongside Governor Yuriko Koike and Ambassador Julia Longbottom. The agreement reinforces and refreshes our long-standing partnership, setting both our markets up for success across asset management, green finance and more.

I had successful meetings with leaders from MUFG, SMBC Group, Mizuho, and SuMi TRUST AM, focused on areas for greater collaboration on asset management and pension investment.

Great discussions were had on how our markets can work together to channel capital into sustainable growth and long-term value creation.

The UK and Japan share deep strengths in global finance. By aligning more closely, we can unlock new investment flows, support transition finance, and deliver benefits for citizens in both countries.

Thank you to our Japanese partners for their warm welcome and commitment to collaboration.
